
In a ceremony on June 9, 51 Portland Public Schools seniors were awarded the Seal of Biliteracy for having attained mastery in English and at least one other world language.
The students achieved biliteracy in a total of 14 different languages: Amharic, Arabic, Dari, French, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Lingala, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tagalog, Urdu and Vietnamese.
Seven of the students earned the Seal in more than one other language.
Congratulations to these students for achieving biliteracy, an important skill attractive to future employers and college admissions offices!
