The Portland Public Schools is pleased to announce that Stephen (Steve) Reed, an experienced and knowledgeable facilities professional, has been hired as the district’s next Custodial Supervisor/Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO).

Mr. Reed comes to PPS from MSAD 75 (Topsham, Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, and Harpswell), where he most recently has been the Facilities Supervisor responsible for four maintenance professionals, more than 23 custodians, and 11 buildings.  Mr. Reed started in that district in 2002 as a custodian and successfully worked his way up to the supervisory position.

“Steve has the experience and depth of knowledge to lead and the passion required to get the job done,” said PPS Facilities Coordinator Douglas Sherwood. “He is looking forward to the challenge and we are pleased to have him join our Facilities leadership team.”

Mr. Reed has an associate’s degree in machine tool technology, and his former experience includes being a tool and die maker and firefighter.  In his spare time, he is an avid golfer, numismatist (coin collector), and Maine author.

Mr. Reed will officially start on November 16, but will be spending time before then familiarizing himself with the duties and responsibilities of the job, as well as visiting our schools.
