Portland Public Schools participates in the ACTEM/UMaine sponsored videoconferencing network. We have two locally purchased Tandberg Edge 95 units (one at PATHS, and one to share with schools on a per-incident basis.)  Both Cliff Island and Peaks Island have received similar units this year through a grant (RUS/Island Institute.) East End Community School recently received one through a federal E-rate grant. These units provide classroom-to-classroom projects across the world, classroom-to-provider projects for remote lessons, interactive field trips, and distance education.  They connect Portland to the statewide network of approximately 90 rural schools with similar devices aquired through the Rural Utilities Service grants. You can also use them for staff development and to attend VC functions statewide.  If you are interested in making a videoconferencing connection, the first thing to do is talk to your library media specialist or building technology coordinator (BTC.) You will need to have a proposal with date/s. CTS can then reserve your date and make sure the equipment is there and your connection is tested in time for your event. We can set up in most classrooms.  If you are planning to use a space other than your classroom, CTS provides the equipment only.  You have to take care of reserving the room.  Below are some helpful links:
