Portland’s three public high schools are listed among the top 50 in Maine in Niche’s 2015 list of The Best Public High Schools.
Pittsburgh-based Niche runs a ranking and review site with information on K-12 schools, colleges, cities, and neighborhoods.
It ranked Casco Bay High School as the 10th best public high school in Maine. Portland and Deering high schools were ranked in the top 30.
Niche
says its ranking provides a comprehensive assessment of the overall
experience at public high schools. It uses data sourced from various
government and public data sets, its own proprietary data, and
opinion-based survey responses from current students, recent alumni, and
parents.
According to Niche, a high ranking in Overall Experience generally indicates that:
- Students
are very happy with their experiences in all aspects, including
academics, teachers, health, safety, resources, facilities,
extracurriculars, sports, and fitness;
- The school is an exceptional academic institution in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
- The school is made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture;
- Students are actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars and sports the school offers.
