Casco Bay High School, the Portland Public Schools’ newest high school, is 10 years old this year. CBHS is holding a picnic this Saturday, June 13, to celebrate the occasion. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the gazebo in Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth.
CBHS was founded in 2005. The high school is a Mentor school within the Expeditionary Learning network and is recognized as a national leader in project-based and “deeper” learning. It is intentionally smaller, with less than 100 students per grade level, so staff can get to know each student deeply.
The school requires each student to apply to college. CBHS graduated 64 seniors on June 4. Of the graduates, 98 percent were accepted to college and 84 percent will be attending 4-year colleges in the fall.
