To celebrate International Walk to School Day and as part of the Maine Safe Routes to School’s Fall 2015 Walk & Bike to School Activities, Lincoln Middle School will have a Walking School Bus on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Also, later in the day, representatives from the Michael T. Goulet Traumatic Brain Injury and Epilepsy Foundation and the University of New England Center for Neuroscience will be at the school to give away bicycle helmets to students that need them on a first-come, first-served basis.

“I feel this is important for Lincoln because we are a participating 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go! school and one of the strategies to encourage healthy lifestyles is by participating in local, state and national initiatives that support healthy eating and active living,” said Lincoln physical education teacher Denise Preisser. “The city of Portland, Healthy Portland and the Bicycle Coalition of Maine have all been working together to select and mark safe routes to schools, so this is a great community collaboration effort to introduce students to alternative transportation.”
