Portland High School senior Adrian Postolache is the recipient of an Award of Excellence, given to students who show outstanding academic performance, leadership potential and dedication to serving humanity through science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

The Portland Board of Public Education and Interim Portland Superintendent Jeanne Crocker recognized Adrian for the award at the board’s Oct. 20 meeting.

The award is sponsored by the National Academy of Future Scientists and Technologists. Adrian earned the award while participating in the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders, held in Boston this past summer. The Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders is an academic honors program in which all participants must have earned a 3.5 or above GPA.

At Portland High School, Adrian has participated in the math team, winning several math placement awards and the overall Math Award his junior year. Adrian has also been active in the orchestra and in the science club and has been a member of the tennis team.

After Adrian graduates next June, he hopes to study mathematics at Harvard University.
