 | Food Drive & Big Donation for Moore Food Pantry/Care Closet Posted on 12/17/2015 Last year, Lyman Moore Middle School started a food pantry to help fellow students and their families grappling with food insecurity and poverty. This year, the food pantry has a new name – the “Care Closet” – and it recently got a $2,500 donation from Evergreen Credit Union. It also will benefit from a food drive on Saturday, Dec. 19, which will help ensure students don’t go hungry over the holiday break.

 | Presumpscot Students’ Lobster ABC Book Is ‘Exemplary’ Posted on 12/14/2015 “The Amazing World of Lobsters,” an ABC book about lobsters created by Presumpscot Elementary School third-graders last year under the guidance of teachers Suzanne Keller and Heidi Nichols, has been chosen as “exemplary student work” by EL Education’s Models of Excellence team. The student work will be included in EL Education's The Center for High Quality Student Work.

 | CBHS Students Rise to the Occasion to Help Africans in Need Posted on 12/02/2015 Casco Bay High School tenth-graders just finished an “Africa Rising” expedition. The students chose a country in Africa to study, then researched to find out how they could aid that specific country's rise. The students then raised $2,800 at a Halloween Dance to donate to projects to aid African countries.

 | Community Invited to School Health Advisory Committee Meeting Posted on 12/02/2015 Parents, community members and staff with an interest in wellness at the Portland Public Schools are invited to a School Health Advisory Committee meeting on Monday, Dec. 7. The public also will get an opportunity to meet Jane McLucas, the district’s new food service director, and to hear wellness updates from school-based Wellness Teams.

 | Deering to Present “Shrek The Musical” Dec. 11, 12 and 13 Posted on 12/02/2015 The Deering Players will present “Shrek The Musical” at Deering High School, 370 Stevens Avenue. The production is a musical with music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire. It is based on the 2001 film “Shrek” and a 1990 book “Shrek!” by William Steig.
