 | King Students Fundraising to Attend National STEM Competition Posted on 04/29/2016 A group of King Middle School students has been selected to attend a national STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) competition at Louisiana State University in May involving underwater robots. The students have launched a fundraising campaign so they can pay for registration, airfare and room and board at the National SeaPerch Challenge May 20-21 in Baton Rogue, Louisiana.

 | PPS Students To Go on Virtual Field Trips Posted on 04/12/2016 Students at Deering High School and at East End Community School will be learning this week how to explore the world via Google Expeditions, a new product that allows teachers to take their classes on virtual field trips to places hard or impossible to get to by school bus. For example, students can explore coral reefs, visit the San Diego Zoo and peer into volcanoes around the world, all in colorful virtual reality detail.

This year’s show will be on Tuesday, April 12, at the Portland Public Library’s Rines Auditorium. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are $5. There will be complimentary refreshments and a silent auction.

 | Portland Voters Approve Hall Elementary School Bond Posted on 04/05/2016 Portland voters on Tuesday, April 5, approved the construction costs for a new Hall School in a special citywide municipal election. The referendum sought the authorization for the construction of a new Hall Elementary School on the existing site at a total cost of $29.7 million. All but $1.4 million of the bonded amount will be reimbursed by the state.
