Let’s Go!, a program of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center, recently recognized a number of Portland’s public schools for participating in its 2015-16 program year. Let’s Go! is a nationally recognized childhood obesity prevention program that supports healthy behaviors in the places where children learn, play and grow.

Schools are recognized when they have demonstrated that they are implementing Let’s Go!’s environmental and policy strategies that support healthy eating and active living. The following public schools in Portland were recognized Let’s Go! sites for the 2015-16 program year:

·        Presumpscot Elementary School

·        Ocean Avenue Elementary School

·        Lincoln Middle School

School cafeterias are recognized when they are implementing best practices that reduce waste, increase participation, and make changes that help “nudge” students to make healthier choices. The following school cafeterias have achieved 2016 Let’s Go! Smarter Lunchroom recognition:

·        Lincoln Middle School

·        Fred P Hall Elementary School

·        East End Community School

·        Riverton Elementary School

·        Longfellow Elementary School

·        Deering High School

·        King Middle School

·        Portland High School

The Let’s Go! Team applauds the efforts of staff that oversee the Let’s Go! work in these schools, because reaching this status is no easy task. Let’s Go! is proud to work with these schools and appreciates all they do to help create healthy environments.
