The Portland Board of Public Education and Superintendent Xavier Botana recently recognized District Transition Strategist Annemarie Salzberg for “giving her valuable time and resources beyond the classroom” for the district’s students.
Salzberg was honored at the board’s Oct. 18 meeting.
Botana delivered the following remarks regarding Salzberg’s service and dedication:
To further her commitment to student success, Annemarie is involved with numerous outside organizations as well: She has been a longtime member of the Southern Maine Advisory Council on Transition (SMACT) and is currently serving as its chair; she sits on the board of the Business Advisory Council for Vocational Services at Maine Medical Center; she works with case managers, community supports, and Vocational Rehabilitation to ensure that students will have supports needed for college and career; and she assists students with college visits and visits to vocational programs.
Annemarie has been serving the students of Portland Public Schools for over 30 years in a number of teaching roles, the most recent as a district Transition Strategist. As the only Transition Strategist in the district, Annemarie is responsible for ensuring that her students are following a plan that will lead to a successful transition to life after high school, whether it be attending college or trade schools, accessing careers and meaningful employment, or living independently. Many times a student’s first work experience or first college experience is the direct result of Annemarie’s work. Students consistently report that it was Annemarie’s personal commitment to their success that motivated them to achieve their goals.
