 | CBHS Freshman To Present Their Vision for Portland’s Future Posted on 12/14/2016 What kind of city should Portland strive to be in the future? Freshman at Casco Bay High School have been researching that question for the past few months and now are ready to share their plan for the city’s success in coming years. On Thursday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. in the State of Maine Room at City Hall, the freshmen will be presenting their “Class of 2020 Vision Statement” and urban development models to members of city government and various other organizations from around Portland.

Posted on 12/12/2016 The Maine Department of Education (Maine DOE) is seeking schools, organizations and community member to become partners in the Read to ME Challenge 2017, which kicks off in the first week in February. Maine DOE says that the collective voice of many key partners, leaders and those in respected positions will send a clear message about the vital importance reading to children plays in the social and economic well-being of Maine. Maine DOE also encourages partners to be creative and to use this opportunity to enhance ongoing literacy education outreach efforts.

 | City to Unveil Reiche School Improvements on Dec. 14! Posted on 12/08/2016 The city of Portland will host a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. to unveil the improvements that were made to the Reiche Community School and Community Center. The city’s Facilities Department oversaw the removal of the failed Clark Street ramp and replaced it with an addition that includes a new Community Center entrance, auxilliary school entrance, and elevator. Tours will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony. The tours will run from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 | School Board Honors CBHS Principal for Winning Leadership Award Posted on 12/08/2016 Derek Pierce, principal of Casco Bay High School, was recently honored by the Portland Board of Public Education and Superintendent Xavier Botana for receiving the 2016 Silverberg Leadership Award from EL Education. The award, which comes with a $5,000 cash prize, is given to an exemplary school leader who has raised student achievement through deep implementation of EL Education practices.

 | PPS’ State Test Scores Show Mix of High Achievement, Challenges Posted on 12/07/2016 The results from new state standardized tests that students statewide took last spring were publicly released Dec. 7. Maine Educational Assessment (MEA) data for the Portland Public Schools (PPS) shows the district performed on par with the state in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Given PPS’ demographics compared to neighboring districts, this is a considerable accomplishment.

 | CBHS Presents 'High School Musical' on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10 Posted on 12/07/2016 Casco Bay High School will present a production of Disney’s “High School Musical” on Friday, Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Portland High School’s Ford Theater. Tickets are available only at the door and are $10, but the cost for students is $5.
