The communications team supports schools and students by coordinating communication with families, staff and our community. As Maine’s most diverse public school district, we are committed to ensuring all families are able to access our communications in their home language.
Media Relations
The communications team is the primary point of contact for the news media. Visit our press room to view recent press releases. For media requests, contact our Communications Coordinator or Executive Director of Communications & Community Partnerships.
Storytelling
We share in-depth stories about the students, teachers and programs from our schools, and news about recent accomplishments and awards.

Family Notifications
Using robocalls, text messages and emails, we notify families about a variety of important announcements that include school cancellations due to inclement weather and school emergencies. Please check with your student’s school office to make sure your contact information is up to date in our student information system.
Videos
We produce YouTube videos about meetings of the Portland Board of Public Education and Board committees, Parent University sessions, community meetings, awards and recognitions, sports, schools, programs, staff and students.
Publications
We also communicate with families and the community through our Staff & Community Newsletter, sent out at least once per month. You can subscribe to our newsletter. We communicate with staff through the newsletter and a bi-monthly Staff Bulletin.
Community Feedback
We value the input of our staff, families and community members. We gather feedback through such means as surveys and community meetings.
