The Communications Team supports schools and students by coordinating communication with families, staff and our community. As Maine’s most diverse public school district, we are committed to ensuring all families are able to access our communications in their home language.
Media Relations

Storytelling
We share in-depth stories about the students, teachers and programs from our schools, and news about recent accomplishments and awards.

Family Notifications
Using robocalls, text messages and emails, we notify families about a variety of important announcements that include school cancellations due to inclement weather and school emergencies. Please check with your student’s school office to make sure your contact information is up to date in our student information system.

Videos
We produce YouTube videos about meetings of the Portland Board of Public Education and Board committees, Parent University sessions, community meetings, awards and recognitions, sports, schools, programs, staff and students.
Publications
We also communicate with families and the community through our monthly PPS Community Newsletter, sent out to families and staff members and posted on our website. We communicate directly with staff through our monthly Tuesday Staff Bulletin, sent to staff and also posted on the Staff Hub.
Community Feedback
We value the input of our staff, families and community members. We gather feedback through such means as surveys and community meetings.
Media and Press
We handle media inquiries and coordinate press outreach on behalf of the district. Members of the press are welcome to reach out with questions or interview requests.
