Health Services
The goal of Health Services at the Portland Public Schools is to promote wellness and minimize absences due to illness and injury, enabling our students to stay healthy and ready to learn.
Healthy students who attend school regularly are better prepared to participate and succeed in a diverse and ever changing world.School nurses and other health services staff help students with preventive care such as flu shots and vision and hearing screening, as well as acute and emergency care. For students with chronic health conditions, school nurses play a large role in the daily management of their conditions. School health services staff also coordinate care by communicating with students’ families and health care providers so that they can stay healthy. Our school nurses welcome students' and families' health-related questions and concerns.
You can't educate a child who isn't healthy, and you can't keep a child healthy who isn't educated.”
