Language Access
A talented team of bilingual and bicultural Parent Community Specialists provide outreach and services for limited English-speaking parents in the Portland Public Schools through a variety of ways, including Translation and Interpretation Services and Parent Advisory Council (PAC) Meetings.
Interpretation and Translation Services
Portland Public Schools recognizes the special needs of members of linguistic and cultural minority groups who are limited English proficient (LEP). In order to ensure equal access to public education, Portland Public Schools is committed to providing access to interpreter and translation services during school hours for all students and family members.
From initial intake at the Multilingual & Multicultural Center to school meetings such as parent/teacher conferences and PTO meetings, parents are provided interpretation and translation services by Parent Community Specialists and/or Native Language Facilitators who speak their language and understand their culture.
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.”
