K-8 Transportation
Kindergarten Transportation
Transportation Services offers school bus service to all kindergarten students residing over one half mile from their assigned school. Kindergarten students are assigned buses along with grades 1-5. Some special provisions have been put in place to insure the safety of our youngest riders. These include:
Elementary Transportation
Special Education Transportation
Special needs students are assigned transportation on an as needed basis. All students not otherwise capable of utilizing regular transportation services, and whose IEP (Individual Education Plan) indicates a need for special bussing, will be provided with transportation resources tailored to the individual needs of the student.
Transportation for Island-based Students
Boat passes for the School Year 2024-2025 will be issued on the First Day of School at the Casco Bay Lines Ticket window. Casco Bay Lines has a list of all students enrolled. The cost of the pass is paid for by the Portland School Department.
All Students are required to have their boat pass to get home in the afternoon. In the event the Student does not have their pass the Portland School Department will need to purchase a ticket for that Student. Students will be granted two free tickets per school year when they forget their pass. When this occurs the incident and name of the student will be reported to their school administrators.
