Student Data

this is content

Each year, students in grades 3-8 and those in their third year of high school take a state-administered test.  Elementary and middle school students take the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) in the fall, and secondary students take the Maine High School Assessment (MHSA), a portion of which is the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), in the spring.  In addition, students identified as English Learners take the ACCESS for ELLs®.

The results of these tests help us as individual teachers, teams, schools and a district identify strengths and areas of concern.  By looking at the data in multiple ways we are often able to identify trends.  The charts found in the folders below represent the achievement levels of Portland Public Schools students in mathematics and reading.  Cohort reports show the performance of a group of students from one grade level to the next (Grade 3 in 2009, and then as Grade 4 in 2010, etc.), while grade level reports show the performance of different groups of students from year to year (Grade 3 in 2009 and Grade 3 in 2010).
