Child Find
Portland Public Schools actively tries to locate any unserved children with educational disabilities who reside within the school district. We are interested in any children, age 0-20 who may have mental, emotional or physical disabilities. We may be able to provide services that could make a lasting difference for these children through referring, identifying and evaluating their needs. If you are aware of any unserved children, please bring them to our attention by contacting the Portland Public Schools Student Support Services Department at (207) 874-8134 or speak to the principal in your child's school.

Your Child's Special Education Services

If you are registering your child for school and your child has an Individualized Education Plan in place, please be assured that your child's new school will work with you to ensure that your child's unique needs are being met.  Please contact your child's school to speak with special education staff or reach out to one of the Assistant Directors to the right if you have questions or concerns.  Thank you!

Destruction of Records
The school department destroys educational records of its students who were enrolled in special education at the end of the school year in which the student would turn 26 years old.  Parents or adult students wishing to obtain these records should contact the Student Support Services Department at that time.  The school department shall maintain permanently a record of a student's name, address, phone number, grades, attendance record, classes attended, grade level completed, and year completed.
Please contact the Student Support Services Department (207-874-8134) if you have any questions.
