Summer Meals
When school is out, many children lose access to the free or reduced-price meals they rely on during the school year. The Portland Public Schools operates summer meal sites and other programs to ensure that all PPS students have access to healthy, nutritionally balanced meals—even through summer break.
Summer Reading Programs
Many students experience a “summer slide”—a loss of academic skills and knowledge that can happen during the summer break. Summer reading programs help prevent this learning loss by encouraging children to read regularly during the break, helping them build strong reading habits, discover new interests, and grow their love of books.
