The Portland Public Schools community is comprised of individuals who are committed to the belief that together, we can accomplish great things.

Portland is a tight-knit community propelled forward by hundreds of mission-driven organizations. Designed to engage students and enhance their educational experience, PPS benefits from partnerships with dozens of selectively-chosen local non-profits. 

PPS welcomes volunteers and community involvement in our schools and sincerely thanks you for your generosity and support. Last year parents and community members volunteered over 94,000 hours to our schools. Each volunteer made a real difference in the lives of students.

Get Involved and Make a Difference!

At PPS, volunteers play an essential role in enriching the lives of our students and creating a vibrant school community. Whether you're looking to share your skills, try something new, or simply give back, there are countless ways to get involved!

Here are just a few exciting volunteer opportunities available:

• Chaperone a Thrilling Field Trip: From mountain biking to ice skating, hiking, or snowshoeing, join us for outdoor adventures and help make learning outside the classroom unforgettable!
• Support Crafting Club: Bring your creativity and help students with candle making, felting, reed basket weaving, paper crafts, and sewing projects.
• Become a Music Mentor: Share your talent as a coach for voice, piano, guitar, bass, or drums and help students develop their musical abilities.

• Depending on your level of involvement with students, you may be asked for additional information such as employment and references. However, all volunteers who work with students will be subject to a background check.

We do maintain a file of those people willing to volunteer in our schools who have been appropriately registered and screened. Please know that this information remains confidential and is not shared beyond the Portland Public Schools.
