The Portland High School boys’ basketball team Class AA championship win took place an hour away in Augusta, but a number of their fellow students were able to be there to cheer the Bulldogs on, thanks to the generosity of Camden National Bank.
The bank presented a $750 check to PHS on March 1. The money helped purchase tickets for the championship game March 4 at the Augusta Civic Center. There, the Bulldogs won their second straight state title with a 60-38 victory against South Portland. It was the Bulldogs’ third state title win in four years.
In a statement, Camden National Bank said it was happy to help out.
“Giving back to the local communities within our footprint is important to us at Camden National Bank. What better way to support the communities we serve than to take part in hometown high school sports that promotes wellness, community and school spirit,” the bank said. “For the past eight years, Camden National Bank has been sponsoring tickets and/or transportation for high school students to attend and cheer on their boys’ and girls’ hockey and basketball teams as they compete in the state final games.”
