The Portland Public Schools is holding Community Resource Fairs at local schools. One will be at Riverton Elementary School on Thursday, Nov. 16, from noon to 5 p.m.. Another will be at Reiche Community School on Monday, Nov. 20, from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Community Resource Fairs are for everyone:

  • • Families in need of services, basic needs, and resources
  • • Families who are interested in becoming more involved with their community through volunteering
  • • Providers who want to learn more about what resources are out there for their clients.

Families who do not have children attending these schools are welcome to attend these fairs!

The fairs will have the following listed resources, and MORE:

  • • Learn more about Volunteer Opportunities with:  Welcoming the Stranger, The Locker Project, and other Community Service Organizations.
  • • FREE Basic Needs Items:  Food- The Locker Project, Clothing (Riverton Only), Diapers- Jewish Family Services, Can Openers and demonstrations on how to use.
  • • Access to Medical, Health, and Social Services:  On the spot registration and scheduling through Greater Portland Health and Opportunity Alliance. 
  • • MaineCare application help:  Through Opportunity Alliance
  • • Legal information about immigration and tenant rights:  Legal Aid Clinic of University of Maine School of Law, and New Maine Tenants Association
  • • Maine Access Immigrant Network:  serves as a bridge and cultural broker for multilingual access to health, social services, employment, and other resources.
  • • Benefit Eligibility Information: from Maine Equal Justice Partners

Other Information on how to access: 

  • • Free furniture,
  • • Free/reduced legal services,
  • • Food pantries,
  • • Employment,
  • • Big Brother/Big Sister Program and Boys and Girls Club
