After consultation with athletic directors, coaches, players, sports boosters and school physicians, the 107th Annual Thanksgiving Day Game between Deering High School and Portland High School has been rescheduled to tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. The venue also has been changed: the game will take place at the city’s Fitzpatrick Stadium.
The game is traditionally held on Thanksgiving Day but the extreme cold weather predicted for this Thursday makes it unsafe for the game to take place that day. Family holiday obligations for those involved make shifting the game to the following Friday or Saturday unfeasible.
City staff will ensure the stadium is free of snow for tomorrow’s game. Restroom facilities will be available but there will be no concession, so fans are advised to bring their own snacks.
Tickets can be bought at the game or through the athletic office of either school. For tickets, contact Mel Craig at Deering Athletics, 874-8164 or Rob O’Leary at ME Portland Athletics, 874-8250
