Students at Deering and Portland high schools distinguished themselves at JMG’s virtual Career Development Conference, held April 13-16.

Deering took first place in the Team Decision Making competition, and DHS junior Emmanuel Saili placed first in the Public Speaking competition. The Portland team won third place in the Career Association Presentation, and other students from both teams won individual awards.

“I am super proud of our students, and especially happy for Emmanuel,” said Joel Costigan, Deering’s JMG (Jobs for Maine’s Graduates) high school specialist. “He is an amazing kid, and an exemplar student and athlete representative of Deering High School!”

Emma Sinden, Portland High’s JMG high school specialist, said, “The best part of this job is watching students rise to the occasion and develop a new sense of confidence and pride through stepping out of their comfort zones. I am so happy and impressed at these students’ hard work and feel they are so ready to become the best adults they can be!”

JMG’s Career Development Conference is held annually in spring. During this event, hundreds of students from across the state take part in competitions that measure their skills in interviewing, job preparedness, teamwork, communications, and leadership.
