The school-based Greater Portland Health (GPH) clinic at Portland High School is scheduled to reopen starting May 13 – on Wednesdays only. The clinic will operate for four hours each Wednesday for well-care and behavioral health appointments and three hours each Wednesday for emergency dental services.

The clinic has been closed since March, when all Portland Public Schools’ facilities closed due to the COVID-19 crisis. The reopened PHS clinic will serve eligible students (students who are enrolled in the School Based Health Centers) from any of Portland’s public schools.

Appointments must be made in advance at 874-2141, or students can contact their school nurse to request an appointment.  The clinic hours will be 9 a.m. to 12 noon for dental services, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for well care and behavioral health appointments. There will be no walk-in appointments available. The clinic will be staffed by a physician, a dentist and a physician assistant (who will handle reception duties).

Strict safety protocols will be followed. In-person medical visits will be spaced one hour apart and telehealth visits also will be available. In-person social work visits will be spaced one hour apart as well. The spacing will limit students to one scheduled visit at a time.

Patients will be screened outside the clinic prior to allowing them to enter the vestibule.

“The Portland Public Schools is thankful for this opportunity to collaborate with Greater Portland Health,” said Portland Superintendent Xavier Botana. “We are very grateful to GPH for its support in connecting students to care during this difficult time.”
