Several Portland Public Schools basketball greats are among the 2020 class of inductees to the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame, according to a Jan. 29 Bangor Daily News article.

Those selected for induction in the Hall this summer include sisters Lynn Bay and Sharon Bay, Portland High School standouts during the late 1980s. Bulldog Coach Ed Feeney is also named as an inductee. The BDN story says Feeney “led one of the greatest dynasties in Maine girls basketball at Portland High School” in the 1980s and 1990s. Portland was also part of the long and varied coaching career of Tony DiBiase, an inductee who was an All-Maine, all-tourney and All-SMAA player for the Westbrook Blue Blazes in 1972.

Peter Gribbin, a 1957 Portland High graduate, is also named as an inductee in the “Legends” category. The BDN said Gribbin “has been a perennial fixture in southern Maine basketball circles. For nearly 50 years, Gribbin has been known as ‘the official’ public address announcer for Portland High School basketball and the MPA tournaments.”
