It’s now easier to understand and appreciate how Painting for a Purpose benefits students and their community, thanks to the efforts of Deering High School student videographer Ladislas Nzeyimana.

Painting For A Purpose, or PFP, is a local nonprofit that celebrates the power of art to bring people together and the power of young people to improve their schools and communities. PFP does this by encouraging the civic engagement of young people and supporting them in putting their good ideas into action. PFP offers grants of up to $500 to K-12 students in the Portland Public Schools. All grants must be youth-led service learning grants and written by students.

Now, inspirational students and teachers who have been involved in PFP projects are featured in a new video that Ladislas, who is a junior, filmed. Deering faculty advisor Larry Nichols and PFP advisors, Tina Edwards and Anne Fisher, helped oversee the project. The video features students’ stories of their experiences working on service learning projects, as well as information about Painting for a Purpose and how to apply for a grant. PFP thanks all those involved, adding that it is “deeply grateful to Ladislas Nzeyimana, our talented videographer for his dedication to this project.”
