The Portland Public Schools has received a total of 2,000 masks to help students and their families stay safe from COVID-19. The Portland Rotary Club donated 1,500 of the masks and the Sebago Lake Rotary Club donated 500 of the masks specifically to the district’s BREATHE Clinical & Behavioral Supports Program.

BREATHE is a specialized educational program dedicated to fostering each individual's success with academic, social, and emotional growth, and one of the programs educational technicians, Clare Woodman, is a member of that club.

The donated masks are part of Rotary’s Million Mask Challenge Tour. Ted Rossi, a Rotarian from Connecticut, donated 1 million masks that were distributed to Rotarian Clubs throughout New England on October 5-7. The organizers are producing a documentary film including each of the stops on the tour.

The masks were donated to the Portland Public Schools at an event held Oct. 6 at Portland City Hall to mark Rotary’s distribution of 100,000 masks in Maine for first responders, health facilities, homeless shelters, schools and other community organizations with need.

The Portland Public Schools is very grateful for the masks. The district requires all adults and students 4 years old and above to wear a mask/face covering on the bus and in school. This generous donation of masks will help Portland Public Schools families comply.
