Rowe Elementary School first- and second-graders hope to help change the world through a collaborative story they wrote about the importance of protecting community water resources. The students’ illustrated “story walk” will be installed on Thursday, May 30, on a Portland Trails path behind the Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS). The installation starts at 6 p.m. and the community is invited to come and see!

Through generous funding from the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership and Portland Water District, students have partnered with the Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District to learn about how our waterways connect, support and enhance our communities.

Students participated in hands-on activities to learn about how water moves, what the major pollutants are in our waterways, and how we can protect our natural resources.  To demonstrate their learning, students produced a collaborative realistic fiction story and worked with local artist Sarah Boyden to create artwork illustrating the story.  Their story walk on the path behind PATHS/Casco Bay High School, located at 196 Allen Avenue, will help to teach others about the importance of conservation and protection of our community's waterways.
