The Portland Public Schools’ Sixth Annual STEM Exposition is set for Friday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the University of Southern Maine’s Sullivan Gymnasium.

Each year, the Expo brings in approximately 1,800 visitors – most of them PPS students brought in by the busload – to see exciting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) exhibits. The exhibits are put on by PPS students, local businesses, postsecondary schools and other organizations. The public also is invited to attend. The Expo serves as an opportunity to share with the community the STEM learning occurring in PPS classrooms.

EnviroLogix, a Portland-based company that develops and manufactures innovative detection technology for every link in the worldwide food production chain, partners with the Portland Public Schools each year in putting on the Expo.

There will be approximately 50 exhibits at this year’s Expo. Students from PPS elementary, middle and high schools will run about half of those exhibits, demonstrating their STEM knowledge. Community partners will put on the remaining exhibits.

Those exhibitors include USM; the University of Maine and their 4-H STEM Ambassadors; the University of New England; Southern Maine Community College; EnviroLogix; Engineers Without Borders; WMTW, ecomaine, Portland Public Library; ACE Mentor Program; and the Portland Police Department Mobile Command Center.
