In honor of the Veterans Day holiday this week, Longfellow Elementary
School students presented local veterans with cards and cookies that
were decorated red, white and blue.
On Monday, Nov. 10, second
graders in teacher Jena Kerns’ class partnered with their fourth-grade
book buddies in teacher Megan Markgren's class to decorate patriotically
themed cookies and create cards for the U.S. Veterans Center, right
across the street on Stevens Avenue.
“Students thanked the
veterans for their service and took pride in honoring the special people
who put their lives on the line to protect their country,” said Melissa
Riley, the school’s community coordinator. “The cookies and cards were
well received and extremely appreciated by the veterans. The students
left with a sense of pride and a better understanding of why school was
closed on Tuesday, Nov. 11.”
