City Sets Portland School Budget Vote for May 12
Posted on 04/09/2015

The Portland City Clerk’s Office has announced that city voters will be asked to approve the Portland Public School’s budget in a citywide referendum on May 12, 2015.

Maine’s School Administrative Reorganization Law requires all school districts to hold elections for approval of their budgets. The budget must be approved by a majority of voters.

The Portland City Council will hold a public hearing on the FY16 school budget at its April 27, 2015 meeting and is expected to vote on the school budget at its May 4, 2015 meeting. The proposed $102.7 million budget contains an expenditure increase of less than 1.2%.

Voters will be asked:

1)  Do you favor approving the Portland School Budget for the upcoming school year that was adopted at the latest City Council budget meeting?

Detailed information about the Portland school budget may be found on the Portland Public Schools website, www.portlandschools.org. Go to the Quick Links “Budget” tab.

All qualified residents of the City of Portland are encouraged to vote. All local polling places will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. For more detailed information about where or how to vote, contact the City Clerk’s office at 874-8677 or visit www.portlandvoters.com.
