Posted on 01/12/2015

King Middle School students will perform in an upcoming holiday concert that is held each year to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16 at Portland’s Merrill Auditorium.

The annual family-friendly concert features songs from the civil rights and peace movements, along with gospel music. The inspiring, joyful event aims to bring the community together in song and spirit.

The King Middle School Knightlife Ensemble and Chorus will give an opening performance and a closing song. There also will be performances by local award-winning singer songwriter Samuel James and the Green Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

For the general public, tickets are $12 general admission and $17 the day of the show. Tickets are available at www.porttix.com or the Merrill Auditorium box office.

Members of the Portland Public Schools can purchase discounted general admission tickets for $5 until the day of the show. Those tickets are available at King Middle School (by contacting Joseph Farrell at farrej@portlandschools.org) or at Central Office (by contacting Suzanne Hardy at hardys@portlandschools.org).
