Four Lyseth Elementary School students recently won a Painting for a Purpose grant of $401 to create a new inspirational sign for the school out of recycled CDs. The sign is scheduled to be completed and installed on June 17.

Painting for a Purpose is a local organization that funds youth-led initiatives that make a difference in the community. The group presented a check on May 6 to first-grader Jackson Kayne and fifth-graders Zannah Walsh, Emily Paradise and Maeve Kelly for their sign project.

The sign will have one word: “Shine.” The word is taken from Lyseth’s new school song, “Lyseth: The Place We Shine!” The new song was written by first-year music teacher John Raymond.

The sign will be fixed above the front entryway of Lyseth. “It will greet students, staff, and community members everyday and build upon Lyseth's new school song,” according to Simon Williams, an educational technician at the school.
