Lyseth Elementary School’s “Summer Stars” Summer Camp program took place July 5-29, with the campers participating in a literacy-based experience highlighted with the science themes of air and weather.
Campers, who attended Monday through Friday, dropped parachutes, flew gliders from the roof of the school, made huge bubbles and bubble socks, and created and launched their own kites. In addition to their daily “camp adventures” at Lyseth, campers had some fun learning experiences within the community. Those included flying kites at Fort Williams Park with Skytoyz Kite Adventures; exploring East End Beach; and attending a children’s theater performance titled “Luna Goes to Mars.”
The campers celebrated the end of their camp experience with a carnival-themed celebration that included games such as math musical chairs, sight word search, find the bear in the whipped cream cloud, and a water balloon toss. Campers and camp leaders enjoyed a lunch of sunshine pizza, root beer “cloud floats,” and cotton candy ice cream cones.
When campers were asked about their summer experience, here’s what they had to say: “I don’t want camp to end!”; “Can school be like this every day?”; “I’m a summer super star!”; “Miss a day, miss a lot!”
