 | Annual Summer Picnic a Success with Kids, Teens Posted on 07/13/2016 In Deering Oaks Park on July 13, throngs of kids and teenagers enjoyed a delicious free lunch, engaged in fun activities and took a “Pledge for Summer Success,” promising to do such things as read and use the Portland Public Library, be active physically, eat healthy foods and draw, paint, dance and sing.

 | PPS Students Win Titles in Therapeutic Pageant Posted on 07/07/2016 Four Portland Public Schools students won titles recently in the first annual Miss Sensational Pageant. The event is a therapeutic pageant for Maine girls and women of all ages with disabilities. The pageant took place July 18 at Riverton Elementary School.

 | Youngsters Invited to Summer Success Picnic July 13 Posted on 07/06/2016 The Portland Public Schools, in association with the United Way’s Starting Strong Program and the Maine Hunger Initiative, will be hosting a picnic at Deering Oaks Park on Wednesday, July 13, to celebrate the free summer meal program for children that is happening across the city of Portland this summer. Youngsters age 18 and younger and their parents are invited to the Summer Success Picnic in the Park, which will feature a free lunch and fun activities that promote learning. The rain date for the event is Thursday, July 14.
