 | City Council To Get Elementary School Bond Proposal July 6 Posted on 06/30/2016 On Wednesday, July 6, the Portland Board of Public Education will refer to the City Council the board’s recommendation that the council send a $70.6 million bond proposal to city voters to pay for renovations at Presumpscot, Longfellow, Lyseth, and Reiche elementary schools. The council is then expected to vote on the creation of a School Facilities Ad Hoc Committee to study the board’s recommendation.

Posted on 06/18/2016 On Saturday, June 18, one of the Portland Public Schools’ signature yellow school buses and more than 100 students, staff and other supporters participated in Portland’s annual gay pride parade. The group marching or riding in the bus as the parade wound its way from Monument Square on Congress Street to Deering Oaks Park met with cheers and applause from the spectators lining the streets.

 | Portland Public Schools To Join In Portland’s 2016 Pride Parade Posted on 06/13/2016 For the second year in a row, the Portland Public Schools will be an official participant in Portland’s annual gay pride parade. District and school staff, including incoming new Portland Superintendent Xavier Botana, and students, members of the Portland Board of Public Education and other supporters are expected to participate in the 2016 Pride Parade down Congress Street this Saturday, June 18. They’ll ride in one of the district’s signature yellow school buses or march alongside it.

 | Lincoln Students’ Fundraising Will Help Raise Families from Poverty Posted on 06/13/2016 Lincoln Middle School eighth-graders have raised a total of $2,315 for Heifer International. The funds are being matched by three organizations and businesses, including IDEXX Laboratories, and will be used to purchase gifts such as honeybees, goats and clean water for families living in poverty around the world.
