Graduation ceremonies will be held the second week of June for Portland High School, Deering High School and Casco Bay High School. A total of more than 500 students are expected to be in the graduating class of 2016.

Included in the many accolades, awards and scholarships that Portland Public Schools’ students receive will be STEM diploma endorsements.

More than 30 PPS students across the district’s three high schools will be graduating with the first Portland Public Schools’ STEM  (science, technology, engineering and math) diploma endorsements.

This endorsement recognizes the students who have demonstrated a commitment to STEM learning.  In order to have earned this endorsement, students have provided evidence of the following:

          Completed a minimum of 20 credits in STEM courses

          Demonstrated a minimum competency in pre-calculus

          Earned credit in at least one STEM college course or STEM A.P. course

          Completed a minimum of 50 hours of STEM learning through such areas as STEM internships, extended learning opportunities or capstone projects.

The dates, times and locations of the Portland Public Schools’ graduation ceremonies are as follows:

Portland High School Graduation: Wednesday, June 8, 10:30 a.m., Merrill Auditorium

Deering High School Graduation: Thursday, June 9, 10:30 a.m., at the Cross Insurance Arena (formerly the Cumberland County Civic Center)

Casco Bay High School Graduation: Thursday, June 9, 6 p.m., Merrill Auditorium

A fourth Portland Public Schools’ graduation ceremony in June will be the Portland Adult Education (PAE) graduation, which will take place Thursday, June 16, at 6 p.m. at Merrill Auditorium. PAE students will be honored for either attaining their high school diplomas or passing a high school equivalency test.
