Deering Players to Perform ‘The Crucible” Nov. 18 and 19

The Deering High School Players Drama Club will perform “The Crucible” by Arthur Miller on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 6:30 p.m. and on Friday, Nov. 19, at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and may be purchased at the performances. Performances will be held at Deering High School, located at 370 Stevens Avenue.
“The Crucible” is a fictionalized account of the Salem witch trials in 1692. The play explores what could happen when someone is accused of treason or subversion without proof and how quickly lies and mass hysteria spread.
Miller wrote the play in response to "the witch hunt" conducted by Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1950s. The theme has current relevance as we live in a time when groups and individuals are targeted as anti-American.
