Lunch, Activities Offered for EECS Students Election Day

This is the image for the news article titled Lunch, Activities Offered for EECS Students Election DayClasses are cancelled Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8, at two district schools that are used as polling places: Deering High School and East End Community School (EECS). The high voter turnout that day is expected to be too disruptive to student learning and poses security concerns. However, EECS has partnered with community organizations to offer lunch and activities off site for its students.

Recognizing that the change in school schedule can be a challenge for families, EECS Principal Marcia Gendron and her staff have worked with a number of community organizations to find alternative activities for children. EECS students are welcome to join EECS staff on Tuesday, Nov. 8, for Rise & Shine activities and lunch from noon until 2:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Portland, Mayo Street Arts, The Root Cellar and the St. Lawrence Arts Center. Thank you to all these community partners for being so accommodating and welcoming to our students!

Classes will be held as usual at Reiche Community School because voters at Reiche will be restricted to the community side of the building, closed off from student areas.
