October is National Bullying Prevention Month and for the second year in a row, Lyseth Elementary School students plan to show their true colors when it comes to combating bullying by wearing orange on Wednesday, Oct. 19 – Unity Day. The students are encouraging everyone in the community to wear orange too.

Fifth-graders at Lyseth are orchestrating the Unity Day event at the school and they have written letters to the public asking everyone to spread the word about wearing orange to take a stand against bullying.

“We are very excited to turn our community into a ‘sea of orange’ for this very special cause,” said fifth-grader Faith Ineza.

National Bullying Prevention month has grown from a one-week campaign started in 2006 by PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center. Now, the month-long effort encourages everyone to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement. One of the events is Unity Day, slated this year for Oct. 19, on which anyone who cares about safe and supportive schools and communities is encouraged to wear the color orange.
