The next meeting of the School Facilities Ad Hoc Committee is on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in room 200 of Casco Bay High School, which is located at 196 Allen Avenue.

The committee was created to study a $70.6 million bond proposal to pay for renovations at Presumpscot, Longfellow, Lyseth, and Reiche elementary schools. The committee toured each school during the summer to get firsthand knowledge of the facilities’ needs. At its Oct. 6 meeting, the committee is expected to give an in-depth look at the renovation costs for each school.

The School Facilities Ad Hoc Committee is scheduled to then meet again on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Merrill Rehearsal Hall, located at 20 Myrtle St., when it is expected to focus on the financial impact of the cost of the renovations (such as bonding, taxes, other priorities). At the board’s Tuesday, Nov. 8, meeting, set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall,  the committee is slated to work on a recommendation to send to the Portland Board of Public Education. Another committee meeting may be scheduled as needed.

The City Council created the School Facilities Ad Hoc Committee in July. The committee’s members are: Portland Board of Public Education Chair Marnie Morrione; board members Stephanie Hatzenbuehler, Sarah Thompson and Anna Trevorrow; Mayor Ethan Strimling; and city councilors Nick Mavodones, David Brenerman and Justin Costa. Strimling and Morrione serve as co-chairs of the ad hoc committee.
