Staff at six of Portland’s public schools are excited that their schools have won a total of more than $14,000 in funding gifts through the Berlin City Auto Group’s Drive for Education program. The awards include $4,000 for a marine touch tank at Presumpscot Elementary School and $4,940 for a recycling program at King Middle School.

In addition to Presumpscot and King, Hall and Lyseth elementary schools, Lincoln Middle School, and Deering High School were the Portland schools receiving funding this year. An awards ceremony is expected to take place in early 2018.

“We are so very lucky to be able to help in this way. In seven years The Berlin City Drive for Education program has provided funding in the amount of $557,452 to schools in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire,” said Michael McPherson, the Berlin City’s customer experience manager who chairs the charitable program.

The awards to the Portland schools totaled $14,340. Here’s a list of the funded programs and items:

  • • Lyseth Elementary School, classroom books, $500
  • • King Middle School, recycling program, $4,940
  • • Presumpscot Elementary School, marine touch tank, $4,000
  • • Hall Elementary School, Cultivating Community, $2,650
  • • Lincoln Middle School, butterfly chairs, $500
  • • Deering High School, Special Olympics, $1,750
