The Board of Directors of the Foundation for Portland Public Schools, together with the Portland Public Schools (PPS), is pleased to announce its transition from the Portland Education Foundation to the Foundation for Portland Public Schools. This new name more clearly articulates the Foundation’s institutional alignment with PPS, and its work to generate support for PPS programming.

Institutionally related foundations are nonprofit organizations dedicated to the support of an educational institution. In this case, the mission of the Foundation is to generate philanthropic support for the Portland Public Schools.

For the past three years, the Foundation has worked closely with the school district to develop partnerships and generate support for investments. Examples of partners and support include Unum’s support of middle school summer programming, L.L. Bean’s support of teacher grants, and the Stephen & Tabitha King Foundation’s support for elementary school literacy resources.

In 2018-2019, the Foundation will launch two new campaigns designed to support growth and sustainability.

The first is a Capacity Building Campaign. This campaign‘s objective is to secure a one-time infusion of resources that will allow the Foundation to hire additional staff to support critical fundraising activities. With only one staff person, the Foundation’s ability to pursue new opportunities and continue to develop existing and varied partnerships and support for PPS, including philanthropic revenue, gifts in kind, and strategic partnerships, is limited.

The second campaign is called the Visionaries Campaign. It is designed to engage individuals and organizations who see the long-term positive impacts of the Foundation’s work to support the Portland Public Schools, and who are able to gift at the $1,000 level or above with a one-time gift, or a multi-year pledge.
