Access to Meals Program Expanded
Posted on 03/20/2020
This is the image for the news article titled Access to Meals Program ExpandedTo increase access to the Portland Public Schools meals program during the COVID-19 crisis, the district has added Portland High School as a ninth meal distribution site. The district also is no longer requiring families to have their children present to pick up meals.

Meals are for anyone age 18 and under. They include both breakfast and lunch. Both can be picked up together anytime between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, Monday through Friday, from the bus loop at each participating school.

The nine school distribution sites are: Deering High School, East End Community School, King Middle School, Lyman Moore Middle School, Peaks Island Elementary School, Portland High School, Presumpscot Elementary School, Riverton Elementary School and Rowe Elementary School.

Staff will not be checking names or requiring identification, but meals are for children and teens only. They do not need to qualify for free or reduced-price lunch or be PPS students to receive these meals.

Families may pick up meals at any one of the sites. Meals cannot be consumed on site. Portland Public Schools buildings will continue to be closed to the public until April 27.

Additional meal options are being provided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine. Their clubhouses are currently closed but families can pick up Grab-and-Go meals at the clubhouses from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday- Friday for those 18 and under. The clubhouses are in Portland, South Portland, Riverton Park, Sagamore Village and Auburn/Lewiston.
