The Portland Public Schools family expresses our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Truc Huynh, a 2001 Portland High School alum, who drowned June 18 as the result of a boating accident.

In remarks to the Portland Board of Public Education at its June 21 meeting, Superintendent Xavier Botana remembered Huynh, 40, a successful businessman and active community volunteer who was active in supporting the district’s work to realize the goals of the Portland Promise, the district’s strategic plan.

“I would like to begin today by sharing our heartfelt sympathy with the family of Truc Huynh, who tragically passed away this past weekend,” Botana said. “Truc was a 2001 PHS graduate and was featured as one of our Portland Promise ambassadors. Beyond that, Truc was a huge supporter of the Portland Public Schools.  He believed fervently in our work and took every opportunity to help communicate about it.  Our condolences to his family and many friends on his untimely passing.”
