The Portland Public Schools is hiring for a variety of teaching positions for the 2020-21 school year to help us meet the unusual needs presented by the pandemic. Please submit your application to be considered for the following opportunities to work with our students and their families.

Dedicated-building Substitute positions are available across the district at all grade levels to assist with daily classroom functions, implementing lesson plans, and monitoring and supporting students.  These are exciting and rewarding opportunities for those who are passionate about helping students reach their full potential. We welcome all areas of expertise including those with skills supporting English Language Learners, Foreign Languages, and Special Education.

Dedicated-building Substitute Teachers will support a specific building and will be onsite daily to provide classroom coverage and support, as needed.  The workweek will be a minimum of 4 days each week (M-T-Th-F).  These positions are guaranteed through 12/31/20, with the possibility of an extension for the spring semester.  Those hired will be paid $150 per day.  Benefits includes one paid day of sick leave per month worked, and an additional cash contribution of $500 per month through 12/31/20.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree Maine DOE teacher certification preferred

The Portland Public Schools also needs Building Aides throughout the district at all levels to support the reopening of our schools! Aides will provide various types of support for their assigned school and its students. Duties may include bus duties, office/administrative support, monitoring outdoor spaces, assisting with student temperature checks and more. Health and safety protocols will be strictly enforced. 

We will train all hires, and face coverings will be provided. These positions are 4 days each week (M-T-Th-F) for 3 hours per day. Those hired will be paid $15/hour, although we’d love to have volunteers as well.  Guaranteed work through 12/31/20, with the potential to continue for the spring semester.  The Portland Public Schools will cover the cost of Maine DOE fingerprinting, a requirement of the position.
