Payroll Concerns/Inquiry

If you have any questions or concerns about your pay, please submit out a HelpDesk ticket and choose the “Payroll Questions/Concerns” from the request type dropdown menu.  This will direct your ticket to the Payroll and HR team members responsible for managing your question or concern.

Login to the Employee Self-Service. Your pay stubs are located at the bottom of the welcome page or under   the “Pay/Tax Information” on the menu. You can select “details'' for any individual pay period and then “view paycheck image” if you want to print the information.

Your username is your Employee ID number and your initial password (if logging in for the first time) is the last four (4)-digits of your social security number. It is recommended after your first login, that you change your password.

If you have changed your password or the initial password does not work, please click “Forgot your password?” to have your password hint or a link to reset your password emailed to you.

On the ESS login page, select “Forgot your username?” or “Forgot your password?” to have your username or a new temporary password emailed to you.

“Forgot your username?” will prompt you to enter your Portland Public Schools email to receive an email containing your 6-digit employee ID number. Please check your spam folder if you do not see it in your inbox.

“Forgot your password?” will prompt you to enter your Portland Public Schools email to receive an email containing both your password hint and a link to reset your password (if you wish to continue with resetting it.) Please check your spam folder if you do not see the email in your inbox.

Your username is your unique employee ID number assigned to you by Portland Public Schools and can be found on your ID badge (the first 6 digits.)

The collective bargaining agreements can be found under the Staff dropdown of the website. You can review the pay scales in whichever CBA or Non-Represented table you fall under to ensure your lane/step/grade is accurate for your position. The wages table is typically found in the last page(s) of your CBA.

Your lane/step/grade and resulting salary are established at the point of hire. Your salary as well as lane, step or grade (depending on bargaining unit) may change over time with your tenure in the organization, or if you move into new positions within the organization. Bargaining agreements designate how pay rate increases happen including the timeline. Your position on the salary scale is a result of your individual experience and background. Steps may not directly correspond to years of experience numerically on the scale.

You can check it in PLBSS. However this has not been updated for this year yet (it is close and expected to be completed early in 2023). When you log into PLBSS it is in the status box. If you know you made a lane change this year, it will not be reflected yet. If you did not make a lane change you can add one step to what you see. Again this will be updated soon (and we will update this FAQ accordingly) 

In response to reports that some people incurred expenses associated with the late payment of their wages (such as overdraft charges or late fees) on 11/18/22, we have established an Incidental Reimbursement Account from which we intend to reimburse employees who incurred unexpected incidental expenses as a result of late payment of their wages.  

Any employee wishing to make a claim for reimbursement should email that request, together with documentation of what it is and why it was incurred to wageinquiries@portlandschools.org.  All requests will be reviewed initially by the claims administrator who may pay the claim, ask for additional support, or reject the claim.  Any claim that has been rejected by the claims administrator will be reviewed again by representatives of PPS before any claim is finally rejected.  We expect that claims that are adequately supported will be paid within 7 – 10 days.
